Wow! Great price for such a nifty little phone! It’s loaded with features, looks and feels slick and people love looking at it. The keyboard takes a little getting use to but once you’ve accomplished that it’s a breeze. love it!

I am not impressed with my Blackberry Pearl 8100 from AT&T. I wanted to step up a notch in smart phones from the Motorola SLVR and this was the best deal at the time. It was compact and attractive and Blackberry customers are usually satisfied with their phones.
I could go on listing like Poliosophy did about the bad points of this phone as well.
1. The battery is horrible in my opinion. You can’t “top it off” on a charge or the battery zaps within a few hours of use and standby. I’ve had to drain the battery until it shuts off, charge it overnight, and then I would have battery life for 1.5 days.
2. I HATE the keypad!! Other reviews keep saying that the QWERTY-style keypad is great, but the keys are too small for “man hands.” I don’t think it’s a user-friendly keypad if your thumb covers the entire 9-key numerical section. The QWERTY setup saves on time, but good luck on trying to dial phone numbers where you have to remember what letters correspond on conventional keypads…
3. Which leads into texting and data entry. It took some time getting used this phone’s version of predictive text, because complete gibberish will exist or you will be frustrated with unintentional contractions (’I'm’ not ‘IM’, etc.) if your man-hands types the wrong key. Then I’ve had to press keys multiple times just to enter a 1 letter need for a word, and then I get double entries when I know I’ve pressed the button only once.
4. The key lock is not very much of a key lock if you’re unknowingly dialing 911 in your pocket.
5. The additional BlackBerry Data Plan requirement just so I can text is garbage.
6. How do you have video file storage capability if there is NO video camera to use? (I think this is the difference between TeleNav capable versions, though)
7. Turning the phone off is more like putting it in hibernate unless you pull the battery.
However, it doesn’t have it’s complete faults:
1. Audio is great, in my opinion; calls come in clear and I can be heard clearly even on speakerphone
2. The camera takes decent pics
3. The calendar and reminders are useful
4. The menus are relatively easy to navigate
Overall, I would NOT recommend this phone if you want a cheap, user-friendly smart phone. Unless you have leprechaun hands, don’t expect to text/email/enter data quickly and keep a charger nearby if you have to have your phone on at all times.

I’ve had this phone a little over a year now, and I’m not impressed with it. My experiences with the Pearl are as follows.
1) Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) starts at $30/month on top of your monthly rate plan. (The service plan on smart phones starts at $10/month as a comparison.) Only BIS will work on a Blackberry, so if you want a cheaper plan, go with a non-Blackberry phone. Also, if you choose not to have BIS and get the phone anyway (like I did), you won’t be able to send/receive photo text messages.
2) The phone does scratch and chip easily. Get a skin for it.
3) The keyboard is great. Its ability to store jargon is fantastic.
4) I drop a lot of calls, and the phone will show to have full signal. I’m not sure if this is ATT’s fault or Blackberry though.
5) Sound quality on the Pearl is poor compared to Nokia and LG phones. Voices alternate between sounding tinny and robotic.
6) This phone freezes up every couple of weeks and I have to remove the battery to restart it. During one of these freezes, a missed call notification appeared that I couldn’t clear. According to the forums and tech support, the only way to clear it is to wipe the phone, but I haven’t tried this. Apparently there’s a chance to wind up with a stuck missed call notification each time the phone freezes.
7) While the Blackberry operating system is intuitive, it has limitations when compared to other mobile operating systems.
In short, I’ll be going with a different platform next time around.
